Deep cleaning, also called scaling and root planing, treats gum disease below the gumline. Start with an evaluation so Dr. Gagneja can explain which care is right for you.

Deep cleaning is nonsurgical gum treatment. It cleans affected tooth-root surfaces and the spaces between teeth and gums, called gum pockets, to address deposits and bacteria.
Plaque and hardened deposits are removed from above and below the gumline.
The root surfaces are smoothed as part of the treatment.
Your dentist will explain which type of cleaning your gums need.
Choose a step to explore the picture and explanation. In step 2, drag the comparison to see what cleaning targets. Your evaluation guides the actual care.
A simplified drawing, not a patient result or treatment instructions. The comparison removes illustrated deposits only; it does not show immediate healing. Your dentist will explain your individual care.
Your dentist may measure the spaces around your teeth, review your health history, and recommend X-rays to assess the supporting bone.
Discuss the findings, the areas needing care, and whether another treatment or a specialist referral is appropriate.
Scaling and root planing cleans the affected areas. Treatment may take more than one appointment, and local anesthetic may be used.
Before starting, ask about the areas included, comfort measures, appointments, and fees.
A follow-up visit checks how your gums respond. Ongoing periodontal maintenance may be recommended to help maintain gum health.
Further evaluation or specialist care may be needed if nonsurgical treatment is not enough.
Request an evaluation or call to discuss your next visit.
Follow the instructions from your treating dental team. They take priority over general website information.
Temporary tenderness or sensitivity can occur. Ask what to expect and when to call if symptoms worsen or do not improve.
Ask how to brush and clean between teeth around treated areas. Discuss tobacco use and anything else that may affect healing with your dental team.
Keep your recommended review and maintenance visits. Gum disease needs ongoing care; deep cleaning is not a permanent cure.
Ask for an estimate based on the areas being treated and the appointments you need.
